What is “The Classics at Communicycle”?
If you’ve been to the Beaver Valley Mall in the past few months, you may have noticed a new display near the fountain. It’s a space created by Communicycle called “The Classics at Communicycle.”
Communicycle is a non-profit organization in Beaver County with a mission to provide refurbished bikes to anyone who wants one. We accept donated bikes and bring them to our shop, where they go through a careful inspection before being refurbished and given away at one of our bike distribution events. We want everyone to have a fun and safe bike to ride!
Over the years, Communicycle has received several classic and vintage bikes. Lee, the Executive Director, knew that while these bikes couldn’t be given away for everyday riding, there had to be a place where people could still enjoy these old beauties. Thanks to the generous support of the Beaver Valley Mall, we found the perfect solution! We are now able to display these bikes for anyone passing through the mall to enjoy.
What can you expect when you stop by?
Take your time browsing the rows of bikes and exploring a small slice of cycling history. For some of the bikes, we’ve been able to learn the story of the owner or the bike itself—stories you can read right on the display tags. These range from a bike donated by Beaver County’s own Scott Tady to a bike that helps explain the early trend of mountain biking.
One special gem in the space is a penny-farthing bike on loan from Bicycle Heaven. This unique piece features the iconic design of one giant front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel.
So next time you’re at the mall, be sure to stop by and take a stroll down memory lane through our bike collection! We’re adding new pieces on an ongoing basis.
How can you be involved?
Do you know the story behind one of these bikes? Do you have a classic bike you’d like to donate? Our long-term dream for this space is to build a community of people who love and care for these classic bikes—people who can help us maintain them and continue sharing their stories. The Classics Club is still in development, so please reach out if you can see yourself helping in this way. We would love to have you!
