Sometimes, a bike is so much more than just a bike. For Emily and her 6-year-old daughter, Jovi, their visit to Communicycle this summer turned into a day they’ll never forget.
Emily first heard about Communicycle through a Facebook post and signed Jovi up to get a free bike. When they arrived at our Storefront in the Beaver Valley Mall, they expected to pick up a bike… but they left with new skills, new confidence, and big smiles.
Jovi hadn’t been on a bike in years, and back then she used training wheels. At Communicycle, she got to choose a refurbished bike and a brand-new helmet — but the real magic happened on the riding course.
One of our wonderful volunteers, Neil Walker, saw Jovi on the course and stepped right in to help. With just a few simple tips and lots of encouragement, he guided her from those first wobbly pedals to riding on her own that very same day.
Jovi’s mom shared afterward that riding her bike has quickly become her favorite thing to do. She enjoys going to the local library in their neighborhood where she can ride it whenever they go. “It’s a day we won’t forget!”
We’re so grateful for our volunteers like Mr. Neil, who loves being able to help kids discover the joy of riding. Their generosity and time make these special moments possible.
At Communicycle, we refurbish donated bikes and give them away to anyone who needs one — We want everyone to have a fun and safe bike to ride!
